Food:
We experience excellent results using this “Ultra 24” Milk Replacer purchased at Gebos. Flood the dog kibbles in the liquid milk replacer and feed the pup all it can eat over a 24 hour period. Proper feeding is super important for the pup’s growth & development. Milk supplement price at the ranch is $25.00 per sack (we haul it 170 miles) or at Gebo's for around $20.00. We will be glad to sell you a sack or two if it will make getting the supplement more convenient for you.
Rancho Santiago feeds kibbled dog food with the highest protein % and highest fat % we can find ... we buy the "Exceed" brand at Sam’s for our pups. The brand name is not as important as the high % protein & fat content. Read and compare the feed nutrient content label on the sack. Some of the most expensive well known brands actually have lower nutrient value.
Dr. Jim saw a new dog food on TV touting that it has organic vegetables and dried blue berries in their dog food ... well heck! ... dogs are carnivores not blue berry eaters, what a scam. A lot of dog food is sold on the basis of appealing to the owners emotions.
Water & Housing:
Keep fresh clean water available at all times for the pup. Pups need protection from the cold or overly hot weather. These baby pups need careful care as does any baby.
Veterinarian Care & Vaccinations: *** Always follow your vet’s recommendations for your area!
Your pup has been dewormed using Panacur, 1cc each day for 3 consecutive days. Ask your vet. when it will need deworming again (We do not endorse the use of ivomec for deworming dogs because if the dosage is not absolutely correct according to the dog’s weight liver and kidney damage may occur.)
We vaccinate for “Parvo” at 5 weeks of age. The pup will need revaccinated for both “Distemper & Parvo” at 8 weeks of age. Check with the veterinarian in your area for a schedule of vaccinations. For our area it is recommended to vacc. for Parvo at 5 weeks, Distemper & Parvo at 8 weeks of age and at 11 weeks, 14 weeks, & 17 weeks. Ask about a rabies vaccination.
