FOR SALE
Rancho Santiago's Herd Sire
Black Gold

This could be your lucky day concerning finding a superior jack that does his business. Due to diabetes and the repositioning of my life at this time
I am selling Rancho Santiago's herd sire jack, Black Gold.

Rancho Santiago's jack sire, Black Gold
Black Gold has a history of producing colorful mule foals. So far, all of the paint mares that have been bred to Black gold have thrown paint mule colts with 4 white stocking legs. Paint mules never spot out truly like a paint mare. They most often have socks, or stocking legs, and some have a splash of white on the rear end around the tail head area and down the leg. Appaloosa mares with the wonderful rump blanket and big spots do not throw mule foals with big color in our experience.

| Texas Waco Kid | Edith | General R. E. Lee | Red Man's Journey | Saint Patrick |
Our informed donkey and mule consultants consider "Black Gold" as the best jack sire in this part of the world & possibly the best in the U.S.A. Black Gold has sired leopard appaloosa mules, spotted rump appaloosa mules, red line back duns, blacks, paints with 4 stocking legs, and some gray appaloosa mules for us. Black Gold tends to throw the color of the mare. This sire also puts the white nose and touch of cream color around the mule foal's eyes. We choose not to show this jack in the aggravating political world of show competition.
As you may know, genetics when crossing the jack with the mare always is some what of a crap shoot. The milk colored, few spotted, app mares tend to throw more app color. The genetics for all colors are weird because of the difference in chromosome numbers between the donkey and horse.

The Rancho Santiago crew searched for years to find the jack with true neutral black color genetics, balanced conformation, refined head, great ears, muscular conformation, docile temperament, with medium bone to fulfill our goal of raising the best of saddle mules. We have accomplished our goals based on the genetics of Black Gold.
I have driven many thousands of miles, invested 5 years of my time, bought & tried out numerous jacks, got cheated, recovered, lost two breeding seasons, and paid many thousands of $ for this jack. Black Gold is worth all of the grief & hassle we went through to acquire him. You can wear out a new diesel truck looking for a Black Gold type jack sire and never find that jack.

I have never been lied to, had stock so misrepresented, and jerked around by equine sellers as in my quest for find a sire that would produce the best of the top quality modern mule foals with color, beautiful conformation, and calm personalities. I bought and tried out 6 different jacks guaranteed by liars to breed mares...this cost us two breeding seasons of missed colts. By shear determination I found Black Gold because I refused to give up the hunt. He is worth the hunt. I have very mixed feelings about selling our jack sire but he is for sale at the relatively bargain price of $3,970.00 at the ranch without transportation to the buyer.

| War Paint | Splash (2005 foal) |
Concerning the mare momma of a mule foal, the foremost trait needed in the mare is a calm loving personality. Any faults in the mare's personality or conformation will be magnified in the mule foal. A mean unruly mare begets even a more mean & dangerous mule. A sweet friendly hip pocket type mare begets a fun loving people liking mule foal. The mare needs to have good withers and sound muscular conformation. Black Gold throws that small neat head and long neck and great big ears that produces a top quality modern type mule foal.

Black Gold is 9 - 10 years old, black with white points, and a genetically neutral black which means he tends to throw his mule babies like the color of the momma mare. His foals grow out to be the size of the mare. Black Gold is 1" under the line for being called a mammoth jack. Black Gold is an exceptionally muscled jack with a great straight back, really nice legs, and a refined head which really cleans up his mule foals with that modern refined horse type head with great ears. Many of the mammoth jacks are coarse boned and produce mule colts with huge ugly heads...bigger is not necessarily better...we went for quality balanced big size with the style of the best of modern mules as our goal.

Black Gold is easy to handle and he has manners and discipline. He has never offered to kick or bite us...many jacks are much more dangerous than bad tempered life threatening stallions. Black Gold does not bite, kick, or maul the mare because we tell him to mind his manners with a rarely needed jerk of the stud chain on his halter. Of course we know to never let down our guard as a handler with any breeding stallion, bull, or jack sire because they are testosterone loaded dominant males. The key to working any jack is a breeding pen, using the same place to breed the mare each time, and a STANDARD HANDLING ROUTINE so handler and jack know their place and duty.

Exceptionally Efficient Quick Breeder
We have spent hours trying to get a mare bred by a reluctant, shy, just not interested jack that would get his equipment up and then down and not get the breeding completed. You will find this following statement difficult to accept as the truth...but I only deal straight up. As timed on a I lead the Black Gold from his pen adjacent into the breeding pen...erection already up and ready to breed before we come through the gate...mare secured in the breeding chute...he quietly trots to the mare and mounts...the time of breeding from the jack mounting the mare until he dismounts is usually ONE MINUTE! I then let him have time to smell and lead him back to his pen.

Inserted in this text are a few of the pictures of Black Gold's get. Black Gold is a superior proven jack sire and demonstrates that he ranks with or above the best of the jacks servicing mares in the U.S.A. and that is a fact. We have not shown this jack because I do not want to participate in those political games. I have dedicated 30 years of dreams and hard work towards our goal of raising the very best of mules...we have reached our goal...and Black Gold is the foundation of our quest. Black Gold is for sale to you.

is back at Rancho Santiago
3 Bells in her tail:
Navajo Molly rides, drives, & packs.

Navajo Molly was owned, raised, trained, ridden and driven and came to Rancho Santiago from a wonderful 78 year old mule man & his 11 year old granddaughter rider.
THIS BEAUTY HAS EARNED HER 3 BELLS IN THE TAIL FROM HER ATHLETIC VERSATILITY AND INTELLIGENCE BECAUSE SHE RIDES, DRIVES TEAM & PACKS.
Why has this extraordinary mule Navajo Molly come back to Rancho Santiago?
Due to serious cancer and illness complications that seriously affect our California friend's financial affairs they sent selling Navajo Molly and Bar Tender (two of the best of mules we have ever known).
They have enjoyed Navajo Molly's service to their family as a trail riding and ranch mule.
We pray daily for this fine woman's healing and for the family's peace.
We ask you to join us with your prayers.

Navajo Molly is a 16+ year old molly mule (has easily another 14 or more years of riding ahead of her) that stands 14 hands tall. This mule girl is not too big and not too little...just that easy to mount size...yet she is strong and stout enough to carry a 200+ pound person with ease all day. She is built for trail & pleasure riding with a strong and thick muscles for driving and garden plowing. We love her red line back dun color with light tiger stripes on her legs plus her cotton color around her eyes and nose that make her a classic mule beauty.

Navajo Molly is as "bomb proof" as a mule gets.
In reality no equine is 100% bomb proof because of how equines see and think...however in our experience Navajo Molly has always been "bomb proof" with no spook behavior, therefore she is most definitely a family mule, special needs mule, beginners mule and reentry to the world of riding mule...She does everything we ask of her right!
Navajo Molly is an intelligent mule gal with great athletic ability that is suited for beginners with some riding experience up to intermediate and experienced riders. She does all of the basics plus right all of the time. Nice conformation, muscular, saddle holding withers, super ears (no ear problems!), refined beautiful head. Navajo Molly rides with a group, follows in a line with her big ears flopping in peace, or easily rides away from the group as a secure individual.

Navajo Molly is pictured above with her full sister and team mate Navajo Ada (now living in Illinois). Molly drives as a team or singly to a cart or plow. Navajo Molly stands quietly for bridling, saddling, harnessing and hooking up to cart and Plow. Dr. Jim says "as stiff as I am I need this type of good mule that will stand in place dependably".

Navajo Molly is an easy follower as a pack mule. Navajo Molly is a good leader of one mule or a string of pack mules. This Navajo Molly mule has covered countless miles of trails, crossed the untracked rough out back country, hunted coon in the company of baying hounds, and has hunted deer and elk in the mountains. Because of her tremendous experience and her patient personality Molly is a consistently dependable easy going mule.

This handy mule gal handles scary trail obstacles with calm ease. She has a very nice ground covering walk and smooth trot that gets your there in a hurry. Navajo Molly's true value shines out in the dangerous places. Coon jump obstacles and fences on the command of "Get Over".

Fine ground manners, easy to lead, stands tie easily. Navajo Molly pushes her way into a trailer and stands in place. We use her to push any mule that is difficult to load on into the trailer. Also, check out her rump muscles!
Folks this type of top versatile safe mule is only for sale once in a very special blue moon ever for sale!

4th of July Parade and celebration at Mule Shoe, Texas.

So just how much does the Rancho Santiago staff trust Navajo Molly?
We fully trust Navajo Molly as our safety outrider for our driving teams at parades, contests, crowded cowboy symposiums, and with out kids. Folks we do not trust many equines with our kids (with supervision) ... just the very special individual mules ... We trust Navajo Molly because she is that special.

These better mules that are truly safe for our beginning guest riders and fully dependable for hunters in the rough out back wild country are very difficult to find. When we discover such a jewel of a mule as is Wilbur the owner will usually will not sell or they know this special mule's high dollar value. I have had my bid in on this mule for over 1 year. Unfortunately, Ranger's Grey Wilbur came to be sold to us due to the owner's ill health. We are glad to have the opportunity to find him a kind good home.

Dr. Jim stands in at petite 6' 240 # and he looks relatively small beside Wilbur! Wilbur is truly that big sky country type of large mule that is so valued in Montana, Wyoming, Utah and by trail riders and hunters all over the country that seek super power and a calm mind.

Ranger's Grey Wilbur has been driven in a team and to the cart as a single.

Wilbur has no ear problems, roaches, bridles, saddles, and harnesses easily. Trailers, leads, hoof trims, stands tied and easily cooperates on all of the basics. No dog problems. Oh, almost forgot Wilbur packs, and drives.

Ranger's Grey Wilbur is a 7 year old john mule who is 16+ hands tall and a big stout strong 1200 pounds of Hum Vee, four wheel drive, equine trail riding vehicle. Wilbur is a big mule guy out of a quality mammoth jack sire and his mare is a quality Percheron draft mare. Wilbur's body is big, his bones are big & stout, his hooves are large, his legs are long, and his head fits the size of his stout body. Ranger's Grey Wilbur is a riding mule or cart type mule not a bone jarring clumsy draft type mule. This john mule eats up the ground traveling he travels the county with long strides at the walk and using his smooth trot and working trot. Grey Wilbur likes to climb and he climbs with big boy effortless power.
Hard to catch NOT! Wilbur will catch you...come straight to you to be petted. Go into the corral with a halter in your hand & Ranger's Grey Wilbur will walk over to you to be haltered!!!!! After haltering, lay the lead rope over his neck, walk away, & Wilbur will follow you as if attached to you hip pocket. Call out his name and he will come to you.

****This is not some delicate light boned mule, but a mountain or rough country working mule that is strong, durable, and will not break down with rough country. There are sports cars, jeeps, and Hum Vee sizes of mules. Ranger's Grey Wilbur is a heavy duty Hum Vee truck with four wheel drive, an Allison tank transmission, and big all terrain tires on his wheels. Wilbur is built big for the out back rough trail or for the athletically challenging situations.
Wilbur mounts or dismounts using a mounting aid such as a step stool, rock, or stump if needed. Wilbur is good backed, has good withers to hold the saddle in place, and has good sturdy legs. Wilbur has no cuts, scars, or blemishes.

Ranger's Grey Wilbur neck reins surprisingly good for his size and has flexibility in his neck. Best of all as a safety first for any riding equine this mule stops and stays STOPPED when asked...no run away.
Ranger's Grey Wilbur can follow another mule or horse all day with a novice rider in his saddle with his ears flopping in the relaxed position. He is also at ease leading on a trail ride with an expert in the saddle challenging the trail alone while riding with a group. Another mule or horse can follow closely on Wilbur's tail & he does not care, feel threatened, nor does he threaten the equine or pack animal following him.

Ranger's Grey Wilbur is priced at the ranch at $5,570.00without transportation.
We have not had the time or weather to drive this mule if he is an excellent driving mule as reported his price will increase significantly.
