Rancho Santiago's Jen

  Rancho Santiago’s Jen

Just how very special is this Rancho Santiago’s Jen? There is a snow storm coming towards our faces while we are on top of the summit of this New Mexico mountain. It is getting dark and cold fast!  On these hunts there is room only for the calmest of dependable safe mules ... we call her "Jen".

We use Jen to lead pack mules and to follow the tracking hounds we utilize on our high dollar profession guided elk, deer, bear, and lion hunts (mike@rimrockadventures.com). Jen has been hunting elk, deer, bear and lion for months during this 2009 hunt season.  Jen is currently in the rough high mountain country of New Mexico earning herself a living hunting lion & bear.

Can you retie your hunting boot safely while in the saddle of your current ride or put on a jacket or rain slicker without risking life and limb?  Well Sir, you can on Jen!  (Note: those are hobbles in a handy storage place around Jen’s neck). We choose safety first & do not ever shoot off of our hunting mules.

RIDE BACK TO CAMP ON JEN while resting with a smile on your tired face as you think about  the adventures of a life time you just experienced during your day ... ... DO NOT HAVE TO WALK BACK TO CAMP WHILE LIMPING AND BLEEDING BECAUSE OF SOME SNIDE MOUNTS DANGEROUS MISBEHAVIOR.

This Jen mule does not jerk back, burn the lead rope through your hand and run off. Just how much is steady calm dependability worth when you are miles from a camp and transportation?  It is worth your life.

While quietly glassing the elk below there is no time to put up with a nervous ninny of a goofy mule. Note Jen's calm sleepy eye and laid back stance. This calm personality is inborn into the mule baby ... it cannot be trained. Jen outstanding calm personality would actually qualify for her as a hippo therapy mule for people with physical or emotional problems to ride to gain confidence.

Jen is easy to mount on a cold snowy morning or to remount in the sharp rocks on the heights many hours and miles from base camp.

Tacking up is no problem and Jen has no ear problems.  There are no issues with dogs. She does not kick nor does Jen have any vicious habits. She trailers & loads up easily and does all of the basics right.

We do not offer Jen as a “coon jumping” mule. However, she will handily “get over” trail blocking obstacles.

Jen is 14.2 hands tall sorrel molly mule. Jen has a strong body build with a nice quarter horse type muscle making her a beautiful functional saddle mule.  7 years old and started right. Jen was born with that rare ultra calm personality that we all hope to find. Jen's  natural quiet disposition is the foundation of those mules that develop into those very few best of mules Jen has a superior ground covering walk and trot. This mule gal rides alone or with other riding or packing equines.

Rancho Santiago’s Jen's price at the ranch

                 $5,770.00 without transportation.

Is $5770.00 just too high for Jen?

Maybe yes or probably no.

Just how much are safety, health, peace and laughter worth? A price can’t really be put on those needs. Good folks, this mule might seem very expensive, but in truth Jen is a bargain. Buy a Cheap Ride? “There is nothing as good as a good mule and nothing as bad as a bad mule” said Leroy Cagle. Have you had the devastating experience, expense, disappointment and trauma of the emergency room lately and by the grace of God and the hands of a physician healer you recovered?   Have you invested your time, heart ache, body aches, shattered bones in a snide ill breed idiot of a mule only to spend more money with trainers on that fool mule while trying to get your mule fool transformed into the ride of your dreams? Then after all of that money is squandered only then do you realize that your mule is goofy and will always be goofy and as dangerous as that old “Strawberry Roan” in the western ballad. All that is left for you to do is to just get rid of that bad mule for nothing.

 Life is short.
 Expense is quite relative.
 Happy trails are deserved.
 Ride the best.
 Laugh And be well.
