Update: Our Marine has met the love of his life .... they were married in May. Maria and I were honored to sit with Chris's mother, Marilyn Haight, as co-parents. HOORAY for them ... God's blessing on their union.
While in high school Kris Kenan was a cowboy intern at Rancho Santiago. Over the four years at the ranch, Chris learned a lot about mules, teams, and life among men. After high school Chris joined the Marine reserves and served in Iraq.
After Chris's return to the U.S.A. he continued in the Marine reserves and attended Texas Tech University. Just a few weeks ago Chris graduated from Texas Tech. Shortly after graduation the Marines offered Chris a spot in Officers Candidate School. Chris has completed OCS and is a officer in the United States Marine Corps. He is now off to infantry school and will then go to pilot training.
We are so very proud of our "son" (his mother Marilyn shares him with us). Chris is a tall, hard bodied, smart, tough, loving son. We are so very proud of our young man's accomplishments.
Just a moment for my thoughts from the soap box: I suggest that when you see a person that is serving in the military that you congratulate them and thank them for serving ... it is the right thing to do whether we agree with these wars or not our service guys and gals are putting their lives on the line.
I had the opportunity to serve in the United States Army as an officer during the Vietnam era at a time when the general public's mood towards us was ugly.
God bless our Chris Kennan and all of those who serve.
