I have my opinion and even I am surprised at how strong I feel about torture. Let me give myself a small bit of creditability ... I was a lieutenant in the United States Army ... I served proudly during that time of Vietnam ... I did not run away to England, Canada, or use lies and monied friends to evade my duty.
As an American and United States Army Officer, I was taught and understand that torture is wrong and just not what we Americans do or condone as a nation.
No bull shit excuse of calling what is out and out torture just "water boarding" or "enhanced interrogation" makes it OK. Water Boarding is TORTURE. Is it OK if the towel heads water board our service guys and gals? ... how about water boarding one guy about 180 times in one month as the CIA has admitted ... Hell no ... it is not OK and not even one water boarding is OK.
"But we get valuable information that saves American lives" the Psy Opps & CIA shadow creeps tell us ... & these shadow creeps work for me and you Americans. Wake up Bosco ... if the law and constitution can be suspended concerning some towel head then it can be suspended for you, me, or our kid. We have eased over the line of being Americans into the land of the Gestapo and gulag.
People held in prison and tortured ... unacceptable. Did Bush in his infinite intellect think water boarding was some form of skiing on a pond? Bush sees stem cell research as unethical and against his conservative religious beliefs. Bush thwarted scientific research that would have helped thousands of seriously ill citizens through scientific research. Where did his ethics and religion conveniently go when the decision to torture came to him.
People held in prison for seven years without charge, no hearing, and no representation is unacceptable. We don't do that. As a country we strongly condemn other countries that imprison without judicial oversight.
If those individuals captured in the war zone are such a horrible threat to me and the dog in my yard then our soldiers with arms in hand needed to just shoot them where they stood ... torture anyone enough and even the honorable John McCain will confess to anything ... that information choked out of a person is not real viable usable information anyway.
We are a land and people of law, justice, ethics, morals ... these standards keep us different and special from the rest of the sewerage in this world. These standards do not have an on - off button.
That former vice president suspended the law because he and Bush's other henchmen think they are the chosen few who are the only ones that know best how to lead us out of the dark wilderness into the glorious sunlight of right ... they are psychopaths ... proclaiming their love and protection of Americans ... no thanks ... go away and shut the hell up.
Close Gitmo today. Bring those towel heads to trial now.
Get back to being our real America immediately.
